Carol: I really love Halloween! It gives me an excuse to feed my sweet tooth.

Jack: I have no idea what any of this stuff is. How do you know what the trick-or-treaters like?

Carol: You can’t go wrong with the classics… Tootsie Rolls, Snickers bars, Hot Tamales, Hershey’s Kisses, candy corn….

Jack: No wonder so many American kids are overweight. This stuff’s all so sweet and sugary.

Carol: That’s why they call them “sweets.” Taiwanese cake, on the other hand, is like bread with cream on top.

B

Jack: My teeth hurt just looking at all this candy. What flavor are these?

Carol: Those are green apple gummies. Yummy!

Jack: They look like a great way to rot your teeth. What was your favorite?

Carol: I used to love Junior Mints. We always ate them at the movie theater.

Jack: At least they’re good for your breath. So tell me about your trick-or-treating memories.

Carol: It was much safer back then. We went all over the neighborhood without our parents.

Jack: What costumes did you wear?

C

Carol: I dressed up as a witch, a 3cheerleader, a princess, a nurse….

Jack: A nurse—I’d like to see that!

Carol: You pervert! Anyway, we’d always visit a haunted house and tell ghost stories afterwards.

Jack: That sounds a lot more fun than Ghost Month in Taiwan.

Carol: You mean burning paper isn’t your favorite pastime?

Jack: Hey, I’m not a 8)pyro. Can we go to a haunted house?

Carol: Sure. We’re also invited to a costume party.

Jack: That could be interesting.
