招待外國朋友去夜市(night market)吃台灣美食,又在苦惱如何用英文介紹美食,尤其對方對食物材料(ingredients)很好奇時,你得臨時擠破頭回答他。以下提供你好用的夜市美食英文介紹!

 

■ fried chicken cutlet 炸雞排

· Fried chicken cutlets are a Taiwanese specialty.

炸雞排是一項台灣特色食物。

 

· Some places make them so big that they’re almost the size of a sheet of A4 paper!

有些攤子的雞排甚至大到接近 A4 紙張的尺寸!

 

■ Taiwanese chicken nuggets 鹽酥雞

· Taiwanese chicken nugget stands also sell fried seafood, vegetables and tofu.

鹽酥雞攤也賣炸海鮮、蔬菜和豆腐。

· Just put the things you want in a basket, and then they’ll fry them for you.

把要吃的東西夾進小籃子裡,等一下他們會幫你炸。

· Fresh basil is added when the chicken is almost done to give it a fragrant flavor.

鹽酥雞要起鍋時會加入新鮮九層塔增加香氣。

· Most chicken nuggets have bones, so be careful when you eat them.

大部份鹽酥雞都有骨頭,吃的時候要小心。

 

■ oyster omelet 蚵仔煎

· Oyster omelets are usually made with eggs, oysters, sprouts and Chinese cabbage.

蚵仔煎裡面的配料通常會有蛋、蚵仔、豆芽菜和小白菜。

· And they’re flavored with a sweet and sour sauce.

還會淋上酸甜的醬汁。

 

■ pig’s blood cake 豬血糕

· Pig’s blood cake is made from pig’s blood and sticky rice.

豬血糕是以豬血和糯米製成。

· It’s often flavored with cilantro and peanut powder.

通常會以香菜和花生粉做調味。

 

■ wheel cakes 車輪餅

· Wheel cakes originated in Japan, and in Taiwan come with many different kinds of filling, both sweet and savory.

車輪餅源自日本,在台灣發展出許多不同的內餡,鹹甜都有。

· But the traditional azuki bean and custard fillings are still the most popular.

但傳統的紅豆和奶油餡還是最受歡迎。

 

■ oyster vermicelli 蚵仔麵線

· Oyster vermicelli is made with whole oysters and thin wheat noodles, and flavored with cilantro, chilies and black vinegar.

蚵仔麵線是用蚵仔和麵線煮成,用香菜、辣椒和烏醋調味。

· Small pieces of pig intestines are often added for extra flavor.

還經常會加小小塊的豬腸來增添風味。

 

■ popiah 潤餅

· Popiah are tortillalike skins filled with vegetables and meat.

潤餅是用類似墨西哥玉米餅的餅皮去包蔬菜和肉。

· You have to eat them fast, or the tortilla will get soggy.

吃這個動作要快,不然餅皮會變得濕濕爛爛的。

 

 

■ pepper bun 胡椒餅

· Pepper buns are baked by sticking them on the inside of a barrel-shaped oven.

胡椒餅是貼在大水桶狀的炭窯內部烤熟的。

· The filling is made of pork, green onions, pepper and other spices.

餡料是用豬肉、青蔥及胡椒等香料製作。
